Charles Smith Eve Chardonnay 2014, Washington – 10% off
There’s some seriously exciting winemaking happening in Washington right now and Charles Smith is right there at the fore. Notable for its long hours of summer sunshine and cool nights, Washington’s wines are distinguishable from the lush wines of California for their ripe fruit paired with mouth-watering freshness.
The unoaked Eve Chardonnay has a lot of energy, with pleasing aromas of hibiscus flower, stone fruit and apple blossom. There is a marked minerality and lively acidity softened by malolactic fermentation and lees contact which lend a lemon cream character.
Chateau Coupe-Roses La Bastide 2015, Minervois – 10% off
The organic vineyards of Chateau Coupe-Roses are at the highest altitude in Minervois, where cool nights and moderate temperatures allow grapes to ripen slowly, developing great acidity and plenty of flavour. The small 45 hectare property is run by Françoise Le Calvez and her husband Pascal Frissant, along with their son Mathias who has recently become winemaker.
A 50/50 blend of Carignan and Grenache, La Bastide is a bold, expressive wine which enjoys four weeks of skin contact prior to fermentation. Packed full of moreish ripe fruit, it is balanced by a good acid structure.
Champagne Palmer & Co. Brut Rosé Reserve NV, Champagne – 10% off
Made from the classic three varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, this rich and full-bodied rosé is perfect for winter drinking, and a great food partner too. Aged for three years on its lees, the wine offers delightful crunchy red fruits on the palate, together with subtle spice and vanilla notes. Uniquely, a small proportion of Pinot Noir from a 35 year old solera system contributes to the blend, adding further depth and richness to the wine.
