Situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico region north of the town of Siena, Castellare came to life in the 60s as the consolidation of five existing grape growing farms and enjoys a natural south facing amphitheatre of vineyards, ideally exposed to the warm Tuscan sun. The estate champions the Sangiovese grape, and the estate’s flagship wine, I Sodi di San Niccolo is a 100% Sangiovese made from the rocky hillside vineyards once deemed too difficult to farm.
The estate ventured further south to the Maremma region in southern Tuscany when it became obvious that purchasing more land to enlarge the vineyard would be impossible. They settled on land in the metal bearing hills in the DOC Monteregio di Massa Marittima and Rocca da Frasinello was born
