Altos de José Ignacio is located in the Maldonado region, close to the coast. Sitting 18km from the Atlantic Ocean means that the naturally warm climate is moderated by maritime influences. Grapes grow on hillsides of soft, stony soils.
Their Albarino is fresh and pure, with a lovely texture from the 3-6 months spent on lees, while the Tannat is refined yet powerful – fermentation occurs in cement tanks and the wines are aged for 6-12 months in French oak.
Winemaker German Bruzzone is passionate about Uruguayan wine culture: “The passion for wine is in my blood; I inherited it from my family. It is a privilege to be able to produce wines with a strong identity, expressing the inimitable character and features of the terroir.”
