Capture the spirit of Brazil this summer
With the 2016 Rio Olympics just around the corner, this summer is going to be all about harnessing the noise and colour of one of the world’s most famous party capitals. And what better way to celebrate than with some Brazilian wine.
Starting out as a rather niche presence in the UK market, the popularity of Brazilian wine exploded when Brazil hosted the World Cup in 2014, with sales more than quadrupling compared to the previous year. Now the fifth largest producer in the southern hemisphere, Brazil is being taken seriously as a producer of quality still and sparkling wines.
This year’s Rio Olympics look set to further increase interest in Brazilian wines – so make sure you’re ready! We’ve selected six wines that all come from the Campanha region, just next to Brazil’s border with Uruguay. Campanha is home to some of Brazil’s oldest vines and is characterised by its hot days and cool nights, which result in incredible fruit concentration.
As well as fantastic offers on these wines as part of our summer promotions – available from 1 July – we’ve got some great POS available, such as posters and web banners. So contact us to find out how we can support you with your Brazilian wine promotions.
Plus – Win a trip to Brazil
To coincide with the Olympics, Wines of Brasil in conjunction with The Wine Merchant are running a window display competition. The lucky winner will be jetting off to Brazil in November for four days to visit vineyards and wineries.

Miolo – 10% off (from 1 July)
Miolo was founded by Giuseppe Miolo in 1897, who emigrated from the Veneto region in Italy to Brazil. Since then, the winery has remained family-owned and managed and has continued to grow in size and reputation. Today it is the country’s largest exporter of Brazilian wine.
Cuvee Tradition Brut
Decanter 90 points
Miolo is famous for its exceptional quality sparkling wine. This 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir traditional method brut has a complex range of fruit flavours and mature yeasty notes. The bubbles are delicate and long lasting, giving it a pleasant and refreshing mouthfeel.
Family Vineyards Chardonnay 2015
This single varietal wine is selected from Miolo’s premium ‘Family’ vineyards and fermented in 20% new American oak. Intense yellow-gold in colour, the nose is a delicate harmony between fruit and oak. The palate is rich and supple with a crisp acidity and long finish.
Family Vineyards Tannat 2012
This single-varietal Tannat is packed with fruit and spice on the nose and just a touch of well-integrated oak for added complexity. The tannins are striking yet velvety, which is typical of the variety.
Family Vineyards Pinot Noir 2015
A feast for the senses, this fine and delicate Pinot Noir exhibits notes of raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, plum, spices and chocolate. In the mouth, the body is supple and velvety with delicate and balanced tannins.
Seival Estate – 10% off (from 1 July)
Unusually for Brazil, Seival Estate is 100% dry farmed, due to Campanha’s near-perfect climactic conditions. The estate has invested millions of dollars in its vineyards and cellar, transforming it into a shining beacon in the young Brazilian wine industry. Portuguese winemaker Miguel Almeida has been instrumental in improving the quality of the wines since he joined the team, drawing on his experience in the Douro, Alentejo and Rheinhessen.
Their ‘Alisios’ range is named after the alisios winds that blow cool, refreshing air from the Atlantic ocean. This unique summer breeze creates ideal growing conditions for these fresh and aromatic wines.
Alisios Pinot Grigio Riesling 2015
This delicate Pinot Grigio has lingering aromas of pears, apricots and flowers. It is well-structured, with a refreshing acidity and good balance.
Alisios Tempranillo/Touriga 2013
This generous blend of Tempranillo and Touriga has a warm, inviting nose of berries and just a hint of tea. The tannins are ripe and soft, with a fresh, crunchy finish.
