A favourite of President Juan Perron and his wife Evita in the 1950s, Bodegas Escorihuela Gascon is the oldest continuously-running winery in Mendoza down town. It is believed to have been the first to introduce 100% Malbec to the region in the 1940s.
Today the winery is overseen by Ernesto Catena, whose father Nicolas is one of the best-known figures in Argentinean winemaking. Under his leadership the winery opened a brand new winemaking facility in 2008 packed with cutting-edge technology and a total capacity of 1,5 million litres. His progressive approach to Argentinean winemaking creates elegant, highly expressive blends with great fruit purity.
